"Vorweg gesagt: Um die Zukunft der Regensburger Verbundklassifikation (RVK) war es nie besser bestellt! Die Systematik ist international arriviert, der Anwenderkreis wächst kontinuierlich und die RVK hat nun ein eigenes Portal! Die UB Regensburg: Ein Innovationszentrum für bibliothekarische Dienstleistungen Die Universitätsbibliothek Regensburg zeichnet sich seit ihrer Gründung Anfang der 1960er Jahre durch innovative und überregionale Servicedienstleistungen wie der Elektronischen Zeitschriftenbibliothek (EZB), dem Datenbank-Informationssystem (DBIS) und eben der Regensburger Verbundklassifikation (RVK) aus. Diese Angebote setzen nicht nur innovative Impulse für die nationale und internationale Bibliothekslandschaft, sondern sind auch durch ihre Organisationsform charakterisiert: Der kooperative Ansatz aller genannten Angebote macht hierbei einen wesentlichen Erfolgsfaktor aus, alle interessierten Institution sind dazu angehalten, sich an der inhaltlichen und technischen Weiterentwicklung zu beteiligen. Dieser "kooperative Leistungsverbund" ist die inhaltliche Existenzgrundlage der Angebote und dient zugleich der Qualitätskontrolle sowie der Nachhaltigkeit. Die bisher vielfach in technischer Eigenleistung weitergeführten Projekte bieten eine Antwort auf den Paradigmenwechsel im Medienangebot (EZB und DBIS deckten im Gegensatz zur RVK zum Zeitpunkt ihrer Konzeption (noch) keine "klassischen" bibliothekarischen Arbeitsfelder ab) und fokussieren auf eine ausgesprochene Zielgruppenorientierung.
Die RVK: Von der Haussystematik zur internationalen Aufstellungssystematik Die älteste dieser bibliothekarischen Dienstleistungen ist die Regensburger Verbundklassifikation. Ursprünglich als reine "Haussystematik" für die Belange der Universitätsbibliothek Regensburg zur Aufstellung großer Freihandbestände entworfen und auf das damals in Bayern noch neue Konzept eines einschichtigen Bibliothekssystems ausgerichtet, entwickelte sich die RVK zum ersten Erfolgsmodell der Universitätsbibliothek Regensburg mit großer Breitenwirkung. Ein stetig zunehmender Anwenderkreis im In- und deutschsprachigen Ausland (Österreich, Schweiz und auch Italien) sowie ein reges Interesse (dokumentiert über die RVKMailingliste und die RVK-Anwendertreffen) an der Weiterentwicklung der Systematik belegen dies eindrücklich. Seit 1964 wird an der RVK als Aufstellungssystematik für die Universitätsbibliothek Regensburg gearbeitet, beteiligt waren die wissenschaftlichen Fachvertreter und Bibliothekare des höheren Dienstes an der Universität Regensburg. Eingearbeitet sind Anregungen anderer Systematiken (LCC und UDK) sowie von der für die Universitätsbibliotheken Bremen und Konstanz entwickelten respektive damals in der Ausarbeitung befindlichen Systematiken. Der größte Vorteil einer Haussystematik - die genaue Abstimmung auf die lokalen wissenschaftlichen und institutionellen Gegebenheiten - wird häufig zugleich als Nachteil für eine potentielle Nachnutzung gesehen: Datentausch bei einem weniger oder anders ausdifferenziertem Bestand wird bis dato kontrovers diskutiert - wie einige Kommentare zur letzten RVK-Umfrage zeigen. "Wir sind mit der Anwendung der RVK zwischen zufrieden und weniger zufrieden. Einige Systemstellen sind zu wenig kompakt und zu sehr aufgesplittert" oder: "Die Feingliederung der einzelnen Systematiken und auch innerhalb einer Systematik ist von sehr unterschiedlicher Tiefe". Gerade für diese Punkte bietet die RVK jedoch so effiziente und qualitative Lösungsmöglichkeiten wie nur wenige andere Systematiken: im Rahmen des (in einigen Fachsystematiken - beispielsweise bei den Autorenstellen in der neueren deutschen Literatur - leider inzwischen begrenzten) vorhandenen Stellenrepertoires ist eine adäquate Ausdifferenzierung jederzeit möglich und wünschenswert. Die RVK kann so den jeweils aktuellen wissenschaftlichen Diskurs und den neuesten Stand der Forschung abbilden und dies gewöhnlich in einem relativ kurzen Intervall. Diese Aktualität und wissenschaftliche Nachhaltigkeit ist durch die kooperative Organisationsform gewährleistet und zugleich die Chance für alle Anwender sich aktiv an der Weiterentwicklung der Systematik zu beteiligen. Nur gemeinsam kann man diesen großen Vorteil der RVK gewinnbringend für alle Beteiligten nutzen.
Die vordergründige Heterogenität einiger Fachsystematiken der RVK ist auf ihre Entstehungsgeschichte zurückzuführen, hat aber die anhaltende Erfolgsgeschichte der RVK keineswegs gebremst. Als Universalklassifikation bietet die RVK zudem einen breiten fachlichen Anwendungsbereich für alle Hochschulbibliotheken. Für eine Volluniversität konzipiert entsprechen die 34 Fachsystematiken der RVK mit der Fächergliederung von "A = Allgemeines" bis "ZX-ZY = Sport" der Reihenfolge der Fächer einer klassischen Gliederung deutscher Fakultäten zum Entstehungszeitpunkt der Systematik. Diese Reihenfolge ist konventionell und völlig wertfrei in Bezug auf die Bedeutung der einzelnen Fächer."
