"Zur Frankfurter Buchmesse vom 14. bis 18. Oktober 2009 präsentierte das Projekt CONTENTUS neue Ergebnisse seiner Entwicklungsarbeit und stellte unter anderem einen Demonstrator für eine multimediale semantische Suche vor. Als eines von sechs Anwendungsszenarien des THESEUS-Forschungsprogramms hat sich das Projekt die Technologieentwicklung für multimediale Bibliotheken und Archive der nächsten Generation zum Ziel gesetzt. Hierzu gehören insbesondere Methoden der automatisierten Inhaltsanalyse und Verfahren zur Bestimmung und Optimierung der Qualität von digitalisierten Printmedien und Videomaterial. Die in CONTENTUS entwickelten Technologien ermöglichen es, Textdokumente, Bilder, Tonaufnahmen (Musik und Sprache) sowie Filmaufnahmen nach der Digitalisierung so zu verarbeiten, dass sie in bestmöglicher Qualität für die weitere Nutzung in digitalen Informationssystemen zur Verfügung stehen. Eine mögliche Anwendung ist ein multimediales semantisches Rechercheportal, welches dem Nutzer bei der Wissenssuche Vorteile gegenüber den heute üblichen Volltext-suchen und fragmentierten Katalogsystemen bietet, indem es innovative Möglichkeiten zur Wissensnavigation eröffnet und die Verknüpfung verschiedener Medienbestände erlaubt. Ein erstes Ergebnis der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit mit dem CONTENTUS-Projektpartner IAIS ist der eRoom, der eine Lösung für den elektronischen Lesesaal gemäß § 52b UrhG bietet. Zudem wird eine moderne Produktionsumgebung für die Digitalisierung von Büchern geboten. Die Projektpartner von CONTENTUS sind neben der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek das Fraunhofer-Institut für Intelligente Analyse- und Informationssysteme (IAIS), das Fraunhofer-Institut für Nachrichtentechnik - Heinrich-Hertz-Institut (HHI), das Institut für Rundfunktechnik (IRT), die Deutsche Thomson OHG, die mufin GmbH und die moresophy GmbH. CONTENTUS ist Teil des vom Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Technologie geförderten Forschungsprogramms THESEUS, welches in sechs Anwendungsszenarien und zwölf Mittelstandsprojekten neue Basistechnologien und Anwendungen für das Internet der Dienste entwickelt."
