Abstract

The presence of formalism in the field of knowledge organization and the extent of its employment in building various KO tools are investigated through terms analysis to determine if the methodological issues are addressed with the same frequency as intellectual and theoretical concerns. The findings are supportive of assumptions that formalism and its role in KO receive somewhat less attention than intellectual and theoretical concerns. Several possible explanations for these results are discussed.
