Abstract

Der Wissenschaftsrat hat sich in der Vergangenheit sowohl aus übergreifender Perspektive als auch im Rahmen der Begutachtung einzelner Einrichtungen mehrfach mit der Informationsversorgung der Wissenschaft durch Bibliotheken beschäftigt. Er fasst Bibliotheken als einen wichtigen Teil der wissenschaftlichen Informationsinfrastruktur auf. Das bibliothekarische Verbundsystem ist in diesem Zusammenhang ein zentrales Element der Informationsinfrastruktur, da es für wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken wesentliche Dienstleistungen erbringt und diese bei der Versorgung der Wissenschaft mit Informationen unterstützt. Der Wissenschaftsrat hat sich in der Vergangenheit sowohl aus übergreifender Perspektive als auch im Rahmen der Begutachtung einzelner Einrichtungen mehrfach mit der Informationsversorgung der Wissenschaft durch Bibliotheken beschäftigt. Er fasst Bibliotheken als einen wichtigen Teil der wissenschaftlichen Informationsinfrastruktur auf. Das bibliothekarische Verbundsystem ist in diesem Zusammenhang ein zentrales Element der Informationsinfrastruktur, da es für wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken wesentliche Dienstleistungen erbringt und diese bei der Versorgung der Wissenschaft mit Informationen unterstützt.
Parallel zur Beschäftigung des Wissenschaftsrates mit den Verbünden hat sich der Unterausschuss Informationsmanagement der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft mit dem Status des Verbundsystems in Deutschland befasst. Um eine wechselseitige Abstimmung der jeweiligen Aktivitäten zu gewährleisten, haben der Arbeitsgruppe des Wissenschaftsrates zwei Mitglieder des Unterausschusses Informationsmanagement als Gäste angehört. Auch ihnen spricht der Wissenschaftsrat seinen Dank aus. Die vorliegende Empfehlung steht im Kontext einer umfassenderen Beschäftigung des Wissenschaftsrates mit wissenschaftlichen Informationsinfrastrukturen. Zwei thematisch verwandte Arbeitsgruppen haben "Empfehlungen zu wissenschaftlichen Sammlungen als Forschungsinfrastrukturen" und "Empfehlungen zu Forschungsinfrastrukturen in den Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften" erarbeitet. Auf dieser Grundlage legt der Wissenschaftsrat außerdem "Übergreifende Empfehlungen zu Wissensressourcen als Infrastrukturen für die Wissenschaft" vor. Der Wissenschaftsrat hat die hier vorliegenden Empfehlungen am 28. Januar in Berlin verabschiedet.
