Abstract

Heuristiken sind ein häufig genutztes Mittel zur Usability-Evaluation von Bibliothekswebsites, wobei ihr Einsatz in der Regel ein hohes Maß an fachspezifischem Knowhow erfordert. Ohne fundierte Usability-Kenntnisse ist es daher kaum möglich, auf der Basis von Heuristiken oder auch anderer Normen und Guidelines detaillierte Hinweise zur Optimierung bibliotheksspezifischer Online-Angebote abzuleiten. Das Schweizerische Institut für Informationswissenschaft (SII) hat daher im Rahmen des Innovationsprojektes "E-lib.ch: Elektronische Bibliothek Schweiz" einen speziell auf die Bedürfnisse von Bibliotheken zugeschnittenen Kriterienkatalog ("BibEval") entwickelt, mit dessen Hilfe Bibliotheken selbstständig eine Usability-Evaluation ihres Webauftrittes vornehmen können und der auch von Usability-Experten als Leitfaden genutzt werden kann, um Bibliothekswebseiten effizient auf Schwachstellen überprüfen zu können. Der Leitfaden BibEval ist modular aufgebaut und ermöglicht dadurch sowohl umfassende Analysen aller Online-Angebote einer Bibliothek als auch die gezielte Evaluation ausgewählter Komponenten bzw. Bereiche der Website. Umgesetzt wurde er in Form einer interaktiven Webanwendung, welche auf den Webseiten der Churer Evaluationslabors zur freien Verwendung zur Verfügung steht. BibEval erlaubt es interessierten Institutionen, sich einen auf ihre Bedürfnisse angepassten Fragenkatalog für Evaluationen zusammenstellen und die Resultate einer Evaluation wahlweise in Form einer CSV-Datei oder eines PDF-Dokumentes exportierten zu können.
