Abstract

Job-Polarisierung ist ein Phänomen, welches die Arbeitswelt und somit die ausgeübten Berufe durch Automatisierung und Computerisierung wandelt. Es ist eine Begleiterscheinung der Wissensgesellschaft. Informationstechnologische Maßnahmen führen dazu, dass Routineberufe, meist von der Mittelschicht ausgeübt, durch computergesteuerte Programme oder Maschinen ersetzt werden. Die Mittelschicht verteilt sich neu auf die Ober- und Unterschicht, wodurch eine Kluft zwischen den Armen und Reichen sowie Gebildeten und Ungebildeten entsteht. Die Informationstechnik ermöglicht es Unternehmen, sowohl ausgebildete wie auch ungelernte Arbeitskräfte zu ersetzen oder ihre Tätigkeiten zu erleichtern. Es wird eine empirische Untersuchung durchgeführt, die vornehmlich die These der Job-Polarisierung auf Städte-Ebene herunterbricht. Dabei werden die Städte Singapur, London und Düsseldorf und ihr Wandel auf dem Arbeitsmarkt in den letzten zehn Jahren analysiert.
