Abstract
An zahlreichen österreichischen Bibliotheken wurden bzw. werden NS-Provenienzforschungsprojekte betrieben, die folgende Ziele verfolgen: die Identifizierung von in der NS-Zeit geraubten Büchern, die Ermittlung der ursprünglichen Besitzerin bzw. deren Erbinnen sowie die Restitution des enteigneten Kulturguts. Wichtige Hinweise auf die Provenienz der zu restituierenden Bücher liefern Besitzstempel, Exlibris oder auch Widmungen in den betroffenen Exemplaren. Diese werden derzeit vielfach lediglich lokal erfasst und ausgewertet, obwohl eine zentrale Zugriffsmöglichkeit zu den an einer Bibliothek ermittelten Provenienzmerkmalen auch für andere Bibliotheken aufschlussreiche Hinweise bieten könnte. Infolgedessen wurde ein Projekt ins Leben gerufen, dessen vorrangige Ziele die Erstellung einer Expertise als Handlungsanleitung für den Nachweis von Provenienzmerkmalen im österreichischen Bibliothekenverbund, die Errichtung sog. "virtueller Mahnmäler" sowie die Ermittlung und Etablierung einer dem Aufwand adäquaten Darstellungsweise der Provenienzforschungsergebnisse waren.
