The growth in the number of CD-ROM data bases and the proliferation of different and inconsistent information retrieval interfaces has led to the search for a standard at this level. Notes SilverPlatter Information Inc.'s Data Exchange Standard (DXS) and other initiatives such as: CD-RDX; Structured Full-Text Query Language (SFQL); and Z39.50
