Abstract

CD-ROM databases have been proliferating in libraries for the past several years. producers have promoted them as user friendly, self instructional systems that require little on site assistance for use. Libraries have found this assumption questionable. At state University of New York Cortland Memorial Library, an evaluation of the compact disc system was carried out in 1989. Reports the data collected that can be used in designing an instructional and assistance programme for end users and offers insights into the process of evaluating end user searching and new technologies in libraries
