Abstract
Für viele von uns ist das Netz mittlerweile die Nachrichtenquelle Nummer eins. Dabei punktet es nicht nur mit einem breiten, ständig verfügbaren Informationsangebot. Entscheidend ist ebenso, dass sich mithilfe von Suchmaschinen und anderen Tools die Masse an Informationen schnell und strukturiert erschließen lässt. Algorithmen sortieren Inhalte vor und analysieren im Gegenzug unsere Verhaltensweisen. Eigentlich hilfreich, doch damit ist auch die Gefahr einer sogenannten Filterblase gegeben: Meldungen entsprechen der bereits bestehenden Einstellung - neue Sichtweisen sind Mangelware. Gleichzeitig ist das Netz auch Schauplatz von bewusster Meinungsbeeinflussung und der gezielten Verbreitung von Falschmeldungen. Mithilfe von Social Bots und Chat Bots ist es möglich, inhaltliche Trends, Interessengruppen und Einzelpersonen zu manipulieren oder öffentliche Debatten zu verzerren. Längst wird in der Öffentlichkeit die Frage diskutiert, was diese Entwicklungen für unsere Demokratie bedeuten. Inhalte, mit denen unsere Meinung gezielt beeinflusst werden soll, können jedem von uns im Netz begegnen. Einmal mehr wird deutlich, wie wichtig ein souveräner und kritischer Umgang mit digitalen Medien ist. Gerade bei dem Thema Algorithmen gibt es aber oft Berührungsängste - zu technisch, zu kompliziert, zu mathematisch. Es betrifft uns jedoch alle. Die Bayerische Landeszentrale für neue Medien konnte Frau Prof. Dr. Katharina Zweig dafür gewinnen, die Funktionsweise von Algorithmen einfach und verständlich für alle Mediennutzerinnen und -nutzer aufzubereiten und die wichtigsten Hintergrundinformationen kompakt darzustellen.
