Abstract

Describes the menu interface, developed by Stellenbosch Univ., South Africa, to overcome problems of integrating CD-ROM databases in the local area network. The solution involved the use of SCSI Express to network the CD-ROMs which are in high demand, whereas less frequently used CD-ROM databases were made available with OPTI-NET, which has a better user interface for the operator. The CD-ROMs which are available to the user are presented in a CD-ROM submenu, which is merged with the user menu at the time of logging in
