Abstract

Identifies a new role for academic libraries in the marketing and instructional support of the Australian Academic and research Network (AARNet). Outlines how the University of Newcastle Libraries, with the agreement of the University Computing Service, developed a training programme using special project staff financed from research infrastructure funding. The strong response from faculty has ensured the future of the programme and confirmed the conviction that libraries have a future in the promotion and user support of new communication technologies
