Abstract

Reviews Entry Level SoftPC, Universal SoftPC, SoftAT, SoftNode and AccessPC from Insignia Solutions Inc. They enable Mac users to function with PCs by enabling the Mac to emulate an 'AT class' 80286 PC and use software and peripherals for IBM machines. SoftNode allows Macs to run Software off a Novell network. AccessPC mounts MS-DOS and OS/2 formatted disks directly on the desktop. Discusses specifications, features, performance, ease of learning, documentation and support. Compares SoftPC with OrangeMicro's Orange386 MS-DOS coprocessor. This is a hardware solution creating a PC on a Nubus board. Software competitors include NetWare from Novell, Dayna Communications DOS Mounter and Apple's DOS Exchange
