Abstract

Der Text ist der zusammenfassende Abschlußbericht einer Studie über den Einsatz von UNIMARC im Bereich der EG, die von der Kommission der Europäischen Gemeinschaft und IFLA in Auftrag gegeben wurde. Der Bericht wurde im Frühjahr 1992 an Der Deutschen Bibliothek erarbeitet, anschließend in das Englische übersetzt und dann im November 1992 zusammen mit den im Rahmen des gesamten Projektes vergebenen Einzelstudien als eine Publikation der Europäischen Gemeinschaft veröffentlicht. Die aus dieser Arbeit hervorgegangenen Ergebnisse und Empfehlungen sind von exemplarischer Bedeutung, was den Austausch bibliographischer Daten auf internationaler, insbesondere europäischer Ebene angeht. Um ihnen daher einen möglichst breiten Bekanntheitsgrad innerhalb Deutschlands zu verschaffen, wird der von Der Deutschen Bibliothek vorgelegte Abschlußbericht hier - von einigen stilistischen Überarbeitungen abgesehen - unverändert wiedergegeben.
