Abstract

Describes problems experienced by the library of the multidisciplinary centre of the University of Paris 12 at Creteil which led to the decisiion to embark upon a dynamic policy of public service provision which emphasized free access to its collections and to information in general by means of the computerization of its catalogues and the provision of CD-ROMs. Describes user studies conducted which provide evidence to suggest that rather than making do with less staff, deployment of their services in a different way has been necessary
