Abstract

Describes SuperJANET which will complement but not replace the Joint Academic Network (JANET) in serving the higher education and research community and which will be a multimedia network carrying video, voice and images, based on optical fibre technology. Draws attention to the pilot network connecting 6 initial sites which will be in place in Mar 93 and discusses a range of pilot applications being developed. these include: supercomputer data visualization and interaction; access to remote facilities; remote consultation; teaching; group communication; and information services
