Defines Geographic Information Systems (GIS), explains GIS data types and operations, and discusses vector and raster representations, elevation data representations, large special databases, and the new spatial indexing methods. Identifies problem areas, such as time varying data and 3 dimensional databases, and notes that artificial intelligence will play a greater role in GIS analysis in the future
