Abstract

In many companies, the information department fails to enjoy the recognition and cooperation its members feel it deserves. The root of this problem is organizational. Cites evidence from a large scale international survey of information technology professionals. Describes a number of specific organizational probelms that contribute to the lack of understanding and impede the creation of a flexible responsive information technology department. Outlines a number of potential remedies for those organizational problems and discusses practical way in which necessary changes might be made, based on the experience of companies which have already addressed the problem
