Abstract

Reviews the history of thematic music catalogues, marking the years 1955, 1965 and 1972 as significant turning points. A brief account of the problems involved in the production of RISM A/II thematic union catalogue is followed with predictions for thematic music catalogues of the future. Includes bibliographies of thematic catalogues used in the Library of Congress Uniform titles (as of 1972) and thematic catalogues in series (1969-1987)
