Abstract

Reviews the EUROCAT CD-ROM database. EUROCAT: the complete catalogue of EC publications and documents is the most comprehensive catalog covering the complex documentary output of the European Communities (EC). The principal source of data for the CD-ROM database is the Office for Official Publications of the European Communities (OOPEC) bibliographic database complemented by other databases. EUROCAT publishes over 450.000 records from these databases and is essentially a trade bibliography on CD-ROM which provided bibliographic citations and prices. The database does not contain any abstracts or any other textual information. EUROCAT offers the advantage over the printed OOPEC catalogues of enabling users to mark priced items, sorting and downloading for producing efficient order lists. Updated quarterly at a subscription of 350 punds plus VAT, its merits as flexible and speedy finding tool may need to be weighed against the fact that the basic OOPEC publications and documents catalogues are updated monthly and are free on request
