Abstract

The library of the University of Helsinki, the National Library of Finland, with its collections of 3 million volumes, has set a good example for other libraries in the country by realizing the importance of catalogue conversion and taking the necessary steps to start pioneering work. The active role of the library in the field of cataloguing conversion has culminated in the establishment of a separate catalogue conversion unit to satisfy the needs of Finnish libraries. Discusses experiments with external conversion help, the in-house conversion project, conversion in the undergradutae library, the Catalogue Conversion Centre, optical scanning, and other projects
