Abstract

Paper presented at the 10th National Cataloguing Conference on Subject to change: subject access and the role of the cataloguer, Freemantle, Western Australia, 4-6 Nov 93. Provides an historical outline of cataloguing and looks at the future of bibliographic work in the academic library and eventually all libraries. Examines the growth in the size and use of the Internet and describes the 3 main network retrieval tools: Archie; the Wide Area Information Server (WAIS); and Gopher. Looks at the potential of Mosaic to integrate the resources available on the Internet and discusses the future role of cataloguers and cataloguing in the world of Internet
