Abstract

Bei Boehringer Mannheim, einem Unternehmen der forschenden chemisch-pharmazeutischen Industrie in Deutschland, wurde vor einigen Jahren das Projekt 'Review-Datenbank' in Angriff genommen. In der Medizinischen Informations- und Dokumentationsabteilung (IuD-Abteilung) werden im Rahmen dieses Projektes die Titel unselbständiger Publikationen aus Büchern, die in der Zentralbibliothek des Unternehmens stehen bzw. neu hinzukommen, in die als Review-Datenbank bezeichnete Datenbank eingegeben. Dabei wird für jeden Titel/Artikel ein separates Dokument angelegt, das die einzelne Arbeit einschließlich vollständiger Quelle, Standortsignatur und (sofern vorhanden) Kongreßangaben nachweist. Alle mit Literatur befaßten Mitarbeiter und Abteilungen des Hauses könne die Titel (und damit die Inhaltsverzeichnisses) von Büchern, die unselbständige Publikationen enthalten, unternehmensweit am eigenen Arbeitsplatz am Bildschirm ansehen, ausdrucken oder auf den PC herunterladen. Die Datenbank bringt für das Unternehmen vielfältigen Nutzen. Wissenschaftliche Arbeiten, die ansonsten unentdeckt in der Bibliothek schlummerten, können exklusiv nachgewiesen werden, wobei der Zugriff auf die Originale schnell und kostengünstig erfolgt. Die gründlichere Erschließung erlaubt eine intensivere Nutzung des vorhandenen Buchbestandes und trägt zu einer Steigerung der unternehmensinternen Wertschöpfungsprozesse bei
