Abstract

Psychedelische Monsterdroge sagen die einen, phantastische Computergrafik die anderen. Was hat es nun wirklich auf sich mit dem Cyberspace und der virtuellen Realität? Bisher kennt man diese Begriffe hauptsächlich aus dem Bereich der Unterhaltungsindustrie. Aber die Entwicklung schreitet voran, und der Einsatz von Cyberspace in Büros, Krankenhäusern und Schulen und sogar im heimischen Wohnzimmer wird in absehbarer Zeit zur Alltäglichkeit gehören. Heute schon errichten Architekten virtuelle Gebäude, Chirurgen führen virtuelle Operationen aus, Schüler und Studenten erforschen physikalische Gestzmäßigkeiten mit Hilfe des Cyberspace usw. Dieses Buch stellt dar, wie der neue Technologie funktioniert, wie und wo sie eingesetzt werden kann und welche gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen sie mit sich bringen könnte
