Abstract
Das programmierbare Datenbanksystem Allegro-C hat nicht nur in Deutschland, aber besonders dort, weite Verbreitung in Bibliotheken und Dokumentationseinrichtungen gefunden. Als nichtkommerzielle Software erfährt es Förderung durch das Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kultur des Landes Niedersachsen. Die einzigen Unterlagen zum Programm bestanden bislang aus einem Systemhandbuch und einer Art Einführungsbroschüre. Allegr-C zählt zu den 'offenen Datenbanksystemen' und vermag aufgrund seiner Komplexität besonders hohe bibliothekarische Ansprüche zu erfüllen, aber auch Anwender zu schrecken. Der Autor setzt sich zum Ziel, die scheinbare Undurchdringlichkeit des Systems zu durchbrechen, indem er das Komplexe portioniert und den Nutzer wohldosiert damit vertraut macht. Der Aufbau seines Lehrbuches entspricht dieser Aufgabenstellung und nimmt sich der folgenden Themen an: Einführung in die Benutzung von Allegro-C unter dem Betriebssystem MS-DOS (Umgebungsvariable, Stapeldateien), die Allegro-Benutzeroberfläche Cockpit, die Konfiguration und Exportparametrierung (die Zugriffsart auf die abgelegten Daten, die Datenausgabe auf Drucker, Bildschirm oder Datei). Auf die Strukturwandlung von Daten (Import) wird hier nicht eingegangen. Seine Zielstellung will der Autor nicht als Konkurrenz zum Systemhandbuch, sondern als Brücke dorthin und Ergänzung dazu verstanden wissen
