Abstract

Scientific visualization, or the presenting of large amounts of data, numbers, and variables in a visual form, has emerged as a critical tool for analyzing and understanding complex data. It results from the merging of computer graphics, sophisticated user interfaces or work environments, image processing and the force of high-speed computers. Describes how a typical earth science problem can be addressed through scientific visualization which can give spatial representations of data, colour, perspective and motion. However, the progress that is being made in research using these advanced tools does not translate well into most current forms of serial publication. Urges the serials community to keep abreast of developments in scientific visualization as they experiment with electronic publishing of journals
