    Abstract
    Die aufkommende Informationsgesellschaft stellt neue Anforderungen an Öffentliche Bibliotheken. Das Internet als modernes Informations- und Kommunikationsmittel spielt dabei eine nicht unerhebliche Rolle. Kommunale Bibliotheken in Deutschland haben im Umgang mit dem Internet noch sehr wenig Erfahrung. Diese Arbeit soll einen ersten Überblick darüber schaffen, inwieweit dieses Medium Öffentlichen Bibliotheken neue Möglichkeiten hinsichtlich bibliotheksinterner Arbeitsabläufe und bibliothekseigener Informationsangebote bereitstellt. Zudem werden Funktion und Aufgabe der Öffentlichen Bibliothek innerhalb der Informationsgesellschaft anhand der Bereitstellung des Internet für den Bibliotheksbenutzer thematisiert. Letztlich werden technsiche Voraussetzungen für einen Internetanschluß dargestellt und die Problematik des Internetbetriebs in Öffentlichen Bibliotheken erörtert
