    Abstract
The global information superhighway is making it possible for institutions like libraries and academic institutions, as well as lay persons, to have access to a myriad of educational and informational materials that was never before possible. More than 100 countries are using the Internet with a growth rate in traffic flow of 100% per month. Describes methods of access to the Internet, navigational tools and some of the information resources available. Discusses the impact of the Internet on education, on libraries, and on developing countries. Considers the issues and challenges posed by the Internet such as privacy, property rights and costs. The information revolution will redefine the role of libraries, museums, and institutions of higher learning and will leave society fundamentally altered
