- Abstract
- 2 studies examine Internet use in American public libraries: study 94 sought to determine the nature, extent and form of public library Internet involvement, study 96 presents data useful for policy makers. Compares results of the studies relating to: staff; expenditures; staff motivation;present Internet connectivity and factors affecting this; use of network connection providers; Internet service costs; future library connection and present use; and Internet services accessible to the public. Swedish public libraries can learn from these studies that librarians need training before the Internet is introduced, and that a gulf between the have and the have not libraries should not be allowed to develop. As the studies did not examine the quality of networked services the author has planned a qualitative survey of 10 California public libraries
