- Since 1991 Bielefeld municipal library has participated in the North Rhine-Westphalian project on new technology in public libraries, which should modernise information provision and rationalise work processes. One new technology, Bildschirmtext, takes data from the telephone network and changes them into a form suitable for computers and comprehensible to users.
