    Abstract
    Knowledge management is emerging as a key concern of organizations, particularly those which have already redesigned their business processes and embedded a total quality management approach into their practices. Explores the phenomenon of knowledge management from the viewpoint of a management academic with a professional background as a librarian. Concludes that knowledge management is a from of expertise centred management which draws out tacit knowledge making it accessible for specific purposes to improve the performance of organizations. Its successful application involves understanding and constructively utilising organizational learning and the information politics of the organization. Librarians are one group who have the background and orientation to comprehend the potential of knowledge management
