- Prognosen zufolge könnte der Umsatz bei elektronischer Information bis zum Jahr 2000 weltweit 50-100 Mrd. ECU erreichen. Dadurch würden 1-2 Millionen hochqualifizierte Arbeitsplätze entstehen. Europa muß sich eine starke Position verschaffen, um sich seinen Anteil an diesem Markt sichern zu können. Gegenwärtig ist der EU-Informationsmarkt jedoch immer noch zersplittert, die Verteilung auf die Mitgliedsstaaten ist ungleichmäßig. Programme der Europäischen Union sollen hier unterstützend eingreifen
