    Abstract
Universal Decimal Classification (UDC), being a predecessor of Colon Classification (CC), had impacts on CC in various ways - directly as well as indirectly. But surprisingly CC too made an impact on UDC in various ways during its revision process. The paper discusses how these two classification schemes have influenced each other in different spheres.

    Abstract
Though the idea of phase relation was first initiated in documentary classification by UDC in 1899, most of the other schemes either ignored the problem or tried to solve it through enumeration. Bliss followed the latter method in his Bibliographic classification (BC1). It was left to Ranganathan to further develop the idea and give it concrete shape in his Colon Classification (CC). BC2, in 1977, adopted an analytico-synthetic approach instead of the enumerative method. Attempts to establish the impact of CC on BC in this regard through comparison of the 2 schemes

    Abstract
Reviews the new edition of CC, which has incorporated most of the developments in the idea plane and notational plane reported in the literature during the previous 20 years, making it a 'freely faceted' scheme. However, some errors have crept in which are bound to create problems for the users. Both these aspects have been critically examined here drawing comparison, where necessary, with the previous edition of the scheme. Reveals the enormously improved capabilities of the scheme in meeting the challenge posed by the ever expanding horizon of the universe of subjects as also the inconsistencies and lack of cohesion in various schedules

    Abstract
After a brief description of the main features of the Vedic system of knowledge and the classification systems of Borden, Guha and Ranganathan, an in-depth comparison is made of the three schemes with regard to their baisc structures and the structures of the main classes, isolates in later arrays, facets, common isolates and notation. On the basis of this analysis an attempt is made to find out the possible influence of the classical system of knowledge and the schemes of Borden and Guha on the structure of the Colon Classification.
