Discusses hypermedia's place in today's dynamic information environment, the potential problem with hypertext/hypermedia systems, and the effect of new technological developments on hypermedia application. - Provides a quick overview of the historical development of hypertext/hypermedia, and the role of hypermedia in today's dynamic information environment. Actual R&D examples in both PROJECT EMPEROR-1, specifically its hypermedia R&D component experimented on all major delivery system platforms, is discussed and demonstrated, and new opportunities for libraries in the 1990s are further elaborated.
