- Abstract
- Der Karlsruher Virtueller Katalog (KVK) ist zu einem der wichtigsten bibliographischen Nachweisinstrumente im deutschsprachigen Raum geworden. Im Beitrag werden die Entwicklung des KVK, die Ergebnisse einer Nutzungsanalyse und auf der KVK-Technologie basierende Spezialkataloge vorgestellt. Diese beschränken sich inzwischen nicht mehr nur auf Deutschland, sondern werden auch international eingesetzt. Beschrieben werden OASE, ein Virtueller Katalog für frei zugängliche elektronische Texte in Hochschulschriftenservern, Bibliotheksportal Karlsruhe und das Schweizerische Zeitschriftenportal SZP.

- Ziel des KVK ist es, über eine Suchanfrage in beliebigen Katalogen zugleich suchen zu können. Ein CGI-Programm formuliert die im KVK-Suchformular für mehrere Zielkataloge, schickt die Anfrage parallel an alle Kataloge, sammelt und analysiert die Trefferlisten, erstellt eine Gesamttrefferliste in einem einheitlichen Format
