- Abstract
- Describes chain indexing in LISA and the modifications to the technique made necessary by a practical working situation. The method was adopted on a "Keep it simple and stupid" basis. However, some permutations and a number of qualifying words have been introduced in order to make entries more understandable. Other difficulties have emerged because the subject field of LISA is connected so closely with social institutions and human relationships. There is also the problem of certain foreign language terms which are virtually meaningless when translated into English. A retrieval test carried out by E.M. Keen had a useful by-product in showing that the layout of the LISA indexes could be improved and the use of bold lead terms is now under consideration
