    Abstract
This article is a survey of representative metadata efforts comparing them to MARC 21 metadata in order to determine if new electronic formats require the development of a new set of standards. This study surveys the ongoing metadata projects in order to identify what types of metadata exist and how they are used and also compares and analyzes selected metadata elements in an attempt to illustrate how they are related to MARC 21 metadata format elements.

    Abstract
This paper describes a pilot project conducted at the Ohio State University Libraries to contract out the cataloging of Slavic books. Two dimensions were examined in this study: 1)the quality of bibliographic records produced by the vendor; and 2) the comparative costs for cataloging in-house vs. outsourcing the cataloging.

    Abstract
Though all library operations are affected by the development of technology, technical services operations are the first to undergo massive organizational restructuring in response. Some current changes and their effects on library cataloging departments are addressed. Two cataloging options are discussed. One is the use of vendor services, such as OCLC's Contract Cataloging, PromptCat, and OCLC Selection. The other is the use of non-traditional staff. The impact of such changes on the role of librarians and on staff education is considered.

    Abstract
This bibliography contains selected cataloging tools an the Internet. It is divided into seven sections as follows: authority management and subject headings tools; cataloging tools by type of materials; dictionaries, encyclopedias, and place names; listservs and workshops; software and vendors; technical service professional organizations; and journals and newsletters. Resources are arranged in alphabetical order under each topic. Selected cataloging tools are annotated. There is some overlap since a given web site can cover many tools.
