    Abstract
The LCSH system is a comprehensive indexing scheme used worldwide to describe the content of books and other materials. Drwas attention to its reinstatement on BNBMARC records after an absence of 7 years in response to revelations by a UK user survey that 25% of responding libraries use LCSH. The LCSH Authority File has been loaded on to the British Library's own cataloguing system. Discusses the advantages of this move and outlines future directions
