    Abstract
Contribution to an issue devoted to minimal-level cataloguing. Paper given as part of the programme 'More with less: minimal-level cataloguing of audiovisual materials' held during the 1990 American Library Association annual conference. In 1987, Louisiana initiated the nation's first statewide bibliographic data base in CD-ROM format to be linked to an interlibrary loan network referral system. Discusses the LAsernet data base, and the role that the Louisiana State Library plays in editing and upgrading many of the brief miminal-level cataloguing records supplied by the small public libraries of Louisiana which have neither the cataloguing expertise nor the financial resources to do full level cataloguing
