    Abstract
Provides an overview of the arguments for and against the delivery of electronic information via CD-ROM and online services. Presents the results of a recent independent survey sponsored by Bowker-Saur among UK business information users. The survey analyses frequency of use of online hosts and databases; CD-ROM as a unique source or supplement/alternative to online; CD-ROM for current or historic data; multiple access by networks; ratio of use between CD-ROM and online databases; end-user searching of CD-ROM and online databases; re-charging for searches undertaken on CD-ROM and online; and criteria for selecting CD-ROM and online services. Provides personal observations of the UK information market based on direct contact with academic, public and corporate libraries throughout the UK
