    Abstract
RISM, the international catalogue of printed music, is in 2 series. Most volumes produced so far appeared between 1960-80 and need revision. Many countries now have new cataloguing rules in computer format. Series A/I should be put on a new basis after publication of the planned supplements. The PIKaDO database programme developed for manuscript documentation could be used also for printed work

    Abstract
In Dec 95 the RISM database of series A/II: music manuscripts after 1600, appeared on CD-ROM, continuing the microfiches of 1084 and 1986. The CD-ROM covers 160.000 works of over 8.000 composers available for retrieval through manuscript sources in 491 libraries and archives in 22 countries. This is the most comprehensive documentation in this field so far, although there are probably over 1,5 million other manuscripts in existence too
