    Abstract
The recent growth of technology has led to new models for accessing large amounts of information, based on technologies associated with distributed networked information. The increasing growth of a technology platform, connected natioanlly or globally, stimulates and promotes direct end user access to content stored in digital formats. The amount of digitally stored information is increasing as well, with approximately 90% of all new information being created first in digital formats. These developments lead logically to the identification of a new phenomenon, the personal digital library (PDL), that can be created using existing computing platforms and existing digital content. The PDL is a concept that is in contrast to the general access public space model associated with print libraries

    Abstract
Describes a procedural set of software routines which allow the conversion of MARC records retrieved from one cataloguing source to be converted for use in a microcomputer environment. Shows how BASIC and dBASE programs have been developed to retrieve and store MARC records from cataloguing sources in pure ASCII format. The developed software programs enable libraries to process, store and retrieve MARC records created by other cataloguing sources for local use, in an inexpensive way. Appendices present the program listings
