    Abstract
Reports on an innovative library based information and referral programme 'Senior Connections', from its inception at the Adelphi University School of Social Work in 1984 to its institutionalization in 1995 within the Nassau (County) Library System. Based on a partnership between librarians, social workers, and teams of trained older volunteers and student interns, Senior Connections proved to be both service and cost effective for services targeted to older adults in their local communities. Suggestions for the future include interagency collaborations, application of I&R technology, interdisciplinary associations and maximum involvement of older citizens in library I&R programmes
