    Abstract
The present work deals with building a computational model for maintenance of a classification schedule. It has been hypothesized that the analytico-synthetic approach is quite amenable to the tools and techniques of Artificial Intelligence. To achieve the objective of building an automatic system for management of classification schemes, 'Vyasa', has been developed using Al tools and techniques. 1. Introduction The present work is a sequel to the earlier work, where the application of Artificial Intelligence tools and techniques were used in the verbal plane i.e. subject indexing (Aptagiri, et al., 1995; Prasad, 1993) and later extended to notational plane where the system could assign automatically the class numbers to given expressive titles (Panigrahi, 1996). The present paper is based an the work carried out to update the 7th edition of Colon Classification (Madalli, 2000).
