    Abstract
Examines the similarities and differences between knowledge based systems (KBS) and information systems (IS) development methodologies. Linking KBS strategic planning to the planning element of an IS methodology will help towards ensuring that the whole of the business is considered, leading to better integrated IS/KBS solutions. Analyzes application selection activities of 2 KBS methodologies. Shows how these activities do not consider the strategic aspects of the use of KBS in business organizations. KBS strategy should be formulated in relation to the IS strategy and the business strategy, increasing the convergence between IS and KBS methodologies
