    Abstract
Among Western philosophers, the study of knowledge emerged in ancient Greece, under the definitive influence of Plato and Aristotle. Plato's Theaetetus immortalized the view that knowledge consists of justified true belief, and this view has come to be called "the traditional analysis of knowledge." This entry outlines the traditional analysis, and presents a formidable threat to it: the Gettier problem.
