    Abstract
Attempts to discover patterns of similarity between a client's natural language statement of an information need and the natural language summaries of that need by human intermediaries. The intermediaries (20) were enrolled in an introductory reference and online information class. A qualitative analysis compares the opposing natural language texts using both frequency of occuring words and a word association measure taken from the Anomalous States of Knowledge (ASK) work. The analysis seems to indicate that there is a strong similarity among the summaries of the human intermediaries when compared by word frequency and word association measures based on proximity and co-occurrence
