    Abstract
    Examines the development of a pilot programme for a biotechnology information service, covering the impor-tance of biotechnology as a key technology, and the responsibility of the East German Academy of Sciences for coordinating activities in the information field. Looks at a model that is also useful for the development of information services in other areas.
