    Abstract
    Während die Formalerschließung alter Drucke, nicht zuletzt durch die groß angelegten Fördermaßnahmen der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft in den 80er und 90er Jahren, massiv vorangetrieben wurden, blieb es um die Sacherschließung alter Drucke lange Zeit vergleichsweise still. Erst die Göttinger, Hallenser und vor allem Berliner Bemühungen um die Einbringung der alten Realkataloge in den OPAC schärften wieder das Bewusstsein für das Potential, das eine Konversion alter Sachkataloge birgt. In vielen Altbestandsbibliotheken liegen ältere und neuere Sachkataloge in gedruckter Form oder als Kartenkatalog vor. Wahrnehmung und Nutzung dieser Kataloge ist jedoch im Zeitalter der elektronischen Informationsvermittlung und -versorgung meist gering. Eine systematische Retrokonversion könnte die Situation verbessern helfen. Ziel des Referates ist es, Aktivitäten zur Konversion von alten Realkatalogen und anderen Sacherschließungsinstrumenten an verschiedenen Altbestandsbibliotheken vorzustellen und Vorschläge zur Optimierung und Abstimmung dieser Prozesse zu machen.

    Abstract
    Seit 1993 verfolgt die DFG das Ziel des Aufbaus einer Handschriftendatenbank für mittelalterliche Handschriften. Grund genug, sich nach einem Rückblick noch einmal der konzeptionellen und methodischen Grundlagen zu versichern. Im einem Datenbankentwurf sind die zu erwartenden Nutzersichten zu integrieren und die handschriftentypischen Schwierigkeiten zu diskutieren. Die neue Situation, Quellen als Digitalisate einbinden zu können, ist dabei zu berücksichtigen.

    Abstract
    Mit dem Nachweis von rund 200.000 von mindestens 265.000 zu erwartenden Titeln ist das von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft geförderte Unternehmen »Verzeichnis der im deutschen Sprachraum erschienenen Drucke des 17. Jahrhunderts« das wichtigste nationalbibliographische Katalogisierungsunternehmen für das 17. Jahrhundert. Mit dem jetzt erreichten Stand ist es an der Zeit, das Projekt als Ganzes noch einmal in den Blick zu nehmen, um die bisherige Entwicklung, die Erfassungsgrundsätze, erste statistische Ergebnisse und Forschungsperspektiven darzustellen.

    Abstract
    Die Digital Humanities sind in aller Munde. Die Beschäftigung mit den digitalen Geisteswissenschaften eröffnet aber nicht nur neue Forschungsgebiete, sondern bringt auch eine neue Art zu schreiben mit sich, weil wissenschaftliche Publikationen selbst Gegenstände der digital humanities sind. Elektronische Publikationen, die im Internet erscheinen, müssen, anders als ihre gedruckten Vorgänger dem Umstand Rechnung tragen, dass man sie nicht nur lesen, sondern maschinell bearbeiten kann. Das hat beträchtliche Auswirkungen auf die Texte, mit denen sich auf diese Weise neue Funktionen verbinden, aber auch auf das akademische Publikationswesen, das sich auf gewandelte Produktions- und Distributionsbedingungen einstellen muss. Der erste Teil des Beitrages widmet sich dieser neuen Art zu schreiben, indem er die technischen und formalen Voraussetzungen für elektronische Publikationen analysiert. Der zweite Teil versucht unter der Überschrift "Open Access - Open Source" die Anforderungen und Auswirkungen elektronischen Publizierens auf das akademische Publizieren im Ganzen auszuloten.
