    Abstract
In 1994 Polish libraries began using USMARC format for EDP. USMARC and RISM format (PIKaDO programme) are helpful in cataloguing, but special non-typical music scores casue problems since no standard applies here yet. It is hard to define 'old printed music', to decide whether the author is the composer or text author, to select the cataloguing depth needed to cope with limitations in existing fields for musical signs and notation. USMARC needs new symbols
